Say Hello to His Little Friend

By Lorenzo Lotto (c. 1530)
Portrait of a Young Gentleman in his Studio

Six hundred years before Match.com, women winked at images of men, too. Only they batted their eyelid and drooled over rich portraits. Renaissance art is full of good-looking devils.

As a writer myself, I’m a sucker for a pale and moody intellectual who mindlessly flips pages of a large book. And so, let me introduce to you Portrait of a Young Gentleman in his Studio by Lorenzo Lotto (1530). But the real cutie in this painting is hiding in the bottom, right corner.

It’s the Geico lizard. Apparently he made palace calls and offered collision quotes on chariot accidents.
